Manage and cite references

Referencing management software may help you collect and organise and annotate references, and cite them in documents you write in Microsoft Word. There are a number of commonly used applications, such as EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero.

EndNote

EndNote is a comprehensive referencing application that integrates well with Microsoft Word when writing essays, journal articles and theses. The CSU Library provides support, library guides, training and online workshops for staff and students in the use of EndNote to collect, organise PDF files and cite references.

CSU has a site license for EndNote that enables staff and students to download and install the application for free.

Mendeley

Mendeley is a fee application and academic social network service with up to 2 GB of storage for PDF files, that can be used to collect, organise, share and cite references. Requires use of a free desktop application to cite references in Microsoft Word.

Extra storage requires a subscription. Mendeley is owned and distributed by Elsevier.

CSU does not provide Mendeley support or access to a paid subscription.

Zotero

Zotero is a free, Open Source application with up to 300 MB of storage for PDF files, images etc., that can be used to collect, organise and cite references.

Extra storage requires a subscription.

CSU does not provide Zotero support or access to a paid subscription.
