Copyright, intellectual property & referencing

Intellectual Property (IP) rights and copyright laws govern how you can use and communicate work that is created by others. A general guide for students on Copyright and IP rights is available on the Copyright at CSU Library Resource Guide.

Referencing at CSU

Referencing is about acknowledging the information sources used in your work and giving credit to the original owner of an idea, piece of writing or creative work. Referencing guides and assistance from the Academic Literacy, Learning and Numeracy (ALLaN) Advisers can be found on the CSU Student Portal

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as your own. Understanding correct referencing and note taking techniques will ensure you understand and avoid plagiarism. The CSU Guide to Avoiding Plagiarism, available from the CSU Student Portal, will enable you to uphold values of academic honesty and integrity.
