Finding and accessing theses

The Library holds all Charles Sturt Research Masters and PhD theses.

Theses from 2009 onwards are available online as PDFs in Charles Sturt Research Output (CRO), the University's research repository.
Earlier and print-only theses are held in the Library's physical collections.

Searching for theses in print

To find print theses - including Australian and international titles held by the Library - search Primo by title or keyword. To narrow your results to theses only, use Advanced Search and set Material Type to Theses.

Using print theses:

Print theses can be used in the Library only and are not available for loan.
If a thesis is held at another Charles Sturt campus library, you can request to have it sent to your local campus Library.

Finding Australian theses

The National Library of Australia’s Trove database lists most Australian university theses. Note that not all theses listed are available online or free to access.

Go to the Trove homepage and enter your keyword in the search box
Open the Categories drop-down and choose Research and Reports
Select Search
Under Refine your results, limit Format to Thesis, and Access to Free access.

Finding international theses

ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global database
Doctoral and Masters theses abstracts from the United States, Europe, Britain and Ireland. Many are available in full text.
EBSCO Open Dissertations
A free, searchable database of open access digital theses and dissertations.
EThOS (E-Theses Online Service)
The British Library's database of UK doctoral theses.
Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD)
An international database of theses and dissertations.
Theological Research Exchange Network (TREN)
Theses and dissertations in theology and religious studies from more than 130 institutions, plus conference papers from several academic societies.
Theses Canada
Theses and dissertations from Canadian higher education institutions.

Requesting theses from other institutions

If a thesis isn't freely available online, you have two options:

Purchase a copy yourself. Some services, such as ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global, allow you to purchase copies directly.
Ask the Library to obtain it for you. The Library can locate and purchase a copy of a thesis on your behalf. Charges apply, based on the rates in the Australian Interlibrary Resource Sharing (ILRS) Code, though they may vary between libraries. Interlibrary Loans staff will provide a quote before proceeding.
