Charles Sturt libraries have a huge range of printed books and journals, early childhood education kits, anatomy models, tablet computers and other resources for borrowing, scanning and using in the library.

Borrowing on campus

Borrowing on campus is available 24/7 via self checkout. To have collection items sent from other campuses to your local campus, find the item in PRIMO, then select your preferred campus as Pickup Location. You will receive an email when the book has arrived. It can be picked up any time from the hold shelf near the entrance of your home campus library.

Borrowing as an online student

If you are an online Charles Sturt student you can request delivery of physical items to your home address. It will be posted to you using the Australia Post eParcel system with parcel tracking.

To have an item sent to you, find the item in Primo, click Request, then select Home Address as your Pickup Location. You will be sent a return address label to use with the packaging when returning the items.

If you are an overseas student enrolled through Charles Sturt University, you can request some physical items be posted internationally. Return postage is not included.

All staff and students at Sydney campus can request items from the Charles Sturt main collection for home delivery. Return these items to a Charles Sturt main campus or St Mark campus library using the supplied return address label.

Borrowing for staff working off campus

Charles Sturt staff members working off campus can request home delivery. Return postage is not included.

Login to Primo Search and go to your Library Record. Check the delivery address under personal details is correct.

In the Primo Request form, select Home Address as Pickup Location. If you do not see the Home Address option, contact the library to update your Library Record.

Request a digitisation (scan)

Once you've found a book in Primo Search, if you don't need the whole thing, you can request a digitised scan delivered to your email. You can request copies of book chapters, table of contents or journal articles from print resources.

Copyright restrictions of one chapter or 10% of the book apply.
To request a copy find the resource you need in Primo and then:

  1. choose 'Submit Digitisation Request'
  2. complete the form
  3. make sure you understand and agree to the copyright terms.

How many items can I borrow?

Charles Sturt University students or staff can borrow any number of items for 12 weeks with unlimited renewals if not requested by someone else. High demand items may be requested and recalled after a shorter period.

Recalled items must be returned when requested.

High demand items from the Reserve shelves can only be borrowed for up to 2 hours on campus.

Dell laptops can be borrowed for 7 days and renewed through My Library Record unless recalled. If all laptops at a campus are on loan, students can request a device through Primo Search and will be notified when one is returned. These devices are not typically eligible for delivery between campuses.

If you can't find what you need in Primo Search

Physical loans and copies of chapters or articles from journals can be requested using our Interlibrary Loans service. Fees may apply.

Material from other libraries cannot be sent overseas. We are only able to obtain digitised copies of chapters or articles for students outside Australia.

Loan periods of books from non-CSU libraries vary, depending on the lending library policies.

Charles Sturt students and staff borrowing from other ULANZ libraries

Charles Sturt staff and students may register to borrow from some universities and colleges in Australia and New Zealand through the ULANZ borrowing scheme. Charges apply at some libraries.

Avoiding charges

Keep track of your due dates and renew your loans before they are overdue by accessing your record in Primo Search.

The Library will send you a courtesy email two days before books are due. Please monitor overdue and recall email notices. As a current student, you can also see library notices in your Student Portal.
