Interlibrary loans

The Interlibrary Loan service supports your research, study, teaching and employment by obtaining more resources to assist your studies.

Learn how to use Primo Search to request an item from another library and the conditions associated with this service.

Requests must relate to current Charles Sturt work, research or study and is only for items not held by Charles Sturt University.

Eligibility and charges

Charles Sturt Students or Staff are eligible for the standard Interlibrary Loan service.

We will post to off campus staff and students. You must pay for return postage to a Charles Sturt campus library.

Charges for interlibrary loan requests

Interlibrary Loans are free for all staff and students providing it is to support your research, study, teaching and employment.

Other charges

Charges may apply for:

  • copies of theses
  • overdue/lost items
  • increased costs for difficult to source items or article requests over 100 pages.

We will contact you before requesting item to confirm additional charges.

We cannot send books from other libraries overseas. We are only able to get copies of chapters or articles for students outside Australia.

Making a request

  • Check Primo Search to see if the library already holds the item required. Ensure you provide a full and accurate citation for a faster turnaround.

  • You can track your request by logging into Primo Search and checking My Request.

Receiving your request

You will be sent an email when an item is available to be collected from your campus library or, for off campus staff and students, when an item is posted to your home address.

  • Loan periods vary depending on the lending libraries policy
  • Check your Library Record for the due date
  • Chapters and articles will be sent to you as an email.

Copyright applies to journal articles and chapters or pages from books and are obtained subject to the provisions of the Copyright Act 1968.

Renewals

To renew your loan, please contact the Charles Sturt Library at least three days before a loan is due. Please note that renewals are not always permitted by the lending library.

Returning items

Borrowers are responsible for returning items.

  • Loans must be returned to one of the main Charles Sturt Libraries.
  • Items must not be returned to St Mark’s campus, please post these items back to one of the main campuses.
  • Borrowers are responsible for return postage costs to Charles Sturt Library.

Interlibrary Loans for Libraries

Charles Sturt Library can supply most items from its collection to libraries via Libraries Australia or OCLC.

Email requests will be actioned providing they follow the Copyright Act 1968 and you are able to pay via Invoice or IFLA voucher.

Theses

Some Charles Sturt theses are available for loan. Libraries can buy a copy of a Not for Loan thesis by emailing bathill@csu.edu.au.

  • A declaration form will be sent to you which must be completed before a theses is copied.
  • Theses copying costs $71.50 (including GST) and may take 4-6 weeks excluding delivery.
  • An electronic copy will be available, with the author’s permission, where possible.
